See below for more info on the show. We’re already here and getting ready to rumble…
I found the time to upload some pics before we got into soundcheck. This show already feels magical. Kids in the hallway are proving that the buzz is around. It’s nice to know that Heiruspecs is still remembered around the way… Cant wait to play. Hurry up and get here! – Felix
On Thursday January 28 from 6-8 Twinkie Jiggles and Trivia Mafia will invade the Fifth Element in Uptown to run hip-hop trivia.
Pabst Blue Ribbon and Caffrey’s Sandwich will also be providing some fantastic prizes and consideration. Get ready for a hip-hop specific image round, sound round, hip-hop charades and tons of great hip-hop history questions. Twinkie’s certainly got the goods to run this bad boy down, he teaches a hip-hop history course at McNally Smith College of Music in St. Paul and if you press pause at the 55th minute and 23rd second of Krush Groove you can see Twinkie eating a calzone in the back of the All You Can Eat Sbarro Montage with the Disco Three. We’ll see you there at 6PM!
Dessa and Heiruspecs have been working together for over 3 years and this Friday marks a special night in their history of collaboration. Dessa’s new quartet featuring Josh and Twinkie of Heiruspecs will be playing alongside Dessa at the release show for new record, “A Badly Broken Code”. Her band will be reinterpreting Dessa tunes from her entire career and the show is going to be wonderful. After being offered a tremendous amount of hummus, red wine and Kool G. Rap CDs Dessa shared these kind words about playing with Heiruspecs.
| “Some of the best moments in my musical career have been made possible by the instrumentalists of Heiruspecs. I’ve long considered myself lucky to have found such talented, sharp, funny and kind players who are willing to join me on stage. In rehearsals, it’s all I can do to stay focused on the task at hand–I’m so often distracted by the beauty of the music they play that I’ll forget to sing. Every performance with players of Heiruspecs constitutes a great privilege.” – Dessa

“The Beatles are in Big Trouble”
Thursday, October 1
Turf Club
9pm :: $5 :: 21+
A musical tribute to the Fab Four by Big Trouble with David Campbell, Brian Just, Chris Pavlich, and Aaron Schimdt with dVRG.
Beatles Rock Band competition with prizes presented by GameCrazy.
Giant Sgt. Pepper’s album cover cutout for pictures.
Beatles movies all night.
DJs Jim McGuinn and Jill Riley from 89.3 the Current spinning Beatles.
It all started with the dream of playing the giant medley that closes out Abbey Road and the Beatles’ career. For Big Trouble, an instrumental band of players with arms’ length resumes in other bands (Heiruspecs, Kid Dakota, Brutal Becomings, Supreme Privacy, Jessy Greene, Crossing Guards, Aaron & The Sea, Traditional Methods, and many more), they knew the perfect singer to carry that weight: David Campbell, DJ on 89.3 the Current and be-wigged member of E.L.nO. In the past, they’d teamed up to cover everyone from Sonny & Cher (with the help of Lucy Michelle) to The Outfield to Weezer, and the re-release of the entire Beatles’ catalog provided the perfect occasion to do something giant and over-the-top.
So Campbell recruited more singers to help him make it better: Chris Pavlich from indie rockers Two Harbors, Aaron Schmidt from holding a cold Budweiser in Ashtray Hearts, and Brian Just courtesy of his bad, singer-songwriting self. Big Trouble got by with a little help from one of its friends in the form of dVRG, keyboardist from Heiruspecs, and the supergroup was set. A long and winding setlist was handcrafted and the musical tribute to the Beatles was ready. But that wasn’t nearly enough.
When “The Beatles are in Big Trouble” goes down on Thursday, October 1 at the Turf Club, there’ll be more. GameCrazy will be setting up the new Beatles Rock Band game for competition in the Clown Lounge (with prizes). Matt Scharenbroich (The Plastic Constellations) is hard at work painting a giant 8’ x 8’ mock-up of theSgt. Pepper’s Lonely Heart Club Band cover (with cutouts for heads, naturally) for people to take their picture with. Paul Creager from Square Lake Music & Film Festival is helping out with video so we can show Beatles movies all night long. And DJs Jim McGuinn and Jill Riley from 89.3 the Current will be spinning Beatles and Beatles-related songs all night.
We hope you will enjoy the show.

Between Luther and Fargo, Twinkie, Muad’dib and I stopped by the 331 club and had some fancy drinks. Bloody Mary’s for them, and a Mamosa for me.

Then back on the road. (Drink responsibly and know your limits)

We’ve been around this block before so we already knew it’d be fun. Jade brought us up again and low and behold, it was a rap show.
These guys didn’t even bother to stick around for the whole show so I don’t mind talking a little shit here. I can’t believe rappers are still singing along to their album tracks! Please stop lip syncing!
Still, I’m grateful and appreciative of the energy and it sounds like your mixtape is probably going to bang. Just get your show right.
Then….

and after Big Quarters…

^^^^I know, I know, I know….. blurry again^^^^

Oh, and by the way, we have all this stuff at EVERY SHOW. Sometimes more! Right now the 10 years strong hoodies are just 20 dollars if you pick one up at a show. (I’ll be working on the online ordering part of this stuff soon)

Meeting new people is half the fun. Friends of friends become just friends.
I didn’t forget your picture!
Oh snap! Is that a new TMF Opposition shirt?
A big special thanks has to go to Rob, who was the soundman for the nights show. He made Peter’s kick drum sound magical. Rick Ruben would have applauded. Rob is part of a band which can be found here –> http://www.myspace.com/battlefieldsdoom
THANKS ROB!!!
