A few shots of rehearsals from the last couple days or so…

Very Tired and VERY Excited to do this benefit show tomorrow. LOTS of awesome guests joining us.

A couple weeks back, I found myself at the Turf Club in St. Paul for an event that wouldn’t normally hold my interest.  Big Trouble turned it all around for me.  They absolutely KILLED a ton of Beatles music.  My point and shoot will explain…

Beatles - Other - 10-6 009Beatles - Other - 10-6 013Beatles - Other - 10-6 017Beatles - Other - 10-6 020Beatles - Other - 10-6 026Beatles - Other - 10-6 037Beatles - Other - 10-6 030

Downstairs you could play the new Beatles Rockband game and upstairs Big Trouble made the Beatles bump like I always thought they should.  It was an amazing night and a lot of people were there that I know as rap kids.  They ALL agreed that this was a dope event.

Big Trouble can be seen playing shows all around the Twin Cities.  Heiruspecs members also in Big Trouble are;

“The Beatles are in Big Trouble”

Thursday, October 1

Turf Club

9pm :: $5 :: 21+

A musical tribute to the Fab Four by Big Trouble with David Campbell, Brian Just, Chris Pavlich, and Aaron Schimdt with dVRG.

Beatles Rock Band competition with prizes presented by GameCrazy.

Giant Sgt. Pepper’s album cover cutout for pictures.

Beatles movies all night.

DJs Jim McGuinn and Jill Riley from 89.3 the Current spinning Beatles.

It all started with the dream of playing the giant medley that closes out Abbey Road and the Beatles’ career. For Big Trouble, an instrumental band of players with arms’ length resumes in other bands (Heiruspecs, Kid Dakota, Brutal Becomings, Supreme Privacy, Jessy Greene, Crossing Guards, Aaron & The Sea, Traditional Methods, and many more), they knew the perfect singer to carry that weight: David Campbell, DJ on 89.3 the Current and be-wigged member of E.L.nO. In the past, they’d teamed up to cover everyone from Sonny & Cher (with the help of Lucy Michelle) to The Outfield to Weezer, and the re-release of the entire Beatles’ catalog provided the perfect occasion to do something giant and over-the-top.

So Campbell recruited more singers to help him make it better: Chris Pavlich from indie rockers Two Harbors, Aaron Schmidt from holding a cold Budweiser in Ashtray Hearts, and Brian Just courtesy of his bad, singer-songwriting self. Big Trouble got by with a little help from one of its friends in the form of dVRG, keyboardist from Heiruspecs, and the supergroup was set. A long and winding setlist was handcrafted and the musical tribute to the Beatles was ready. But that wasn’t nearly enough.

When “The Beatles are in Big Trouble” goes down on Thursday, October 1 at the Turf Club, there’ll be more. GameCrazy will be setting up the new Beatles Rock Band game for competition in the Clown Lounge (with prizes). Matt Scharenbroich (The Plastic Constellations) is hard at work painting a giant 8’ x 8’ mock-up of theSgt. Pepper’s Lonely Heart Club Band cover (with cutouts for heads, naturally) for people to take their picture with. Paul Creager from Square Lake Music & Film Festival is helping out with video so we can show Beatles movies all night long. And DJs Jim McGuinn and Jill Riley from 89.3 the Current will be spinning Beatles and Beatles-related songs all night.

We hope you will enjoy the show.

Perfect words for the night.

We showed up to catch the end of Martin Devaney’s set.  Former Heiruspecs member and all around good guy, we had a drink with him accross the street from the show before setting up.  Guess what?  He aggreed to do Wardrums with us tonight…

Mears Park - 9-13 001

Here’s a before and after deal;

This is 2 minutes before our set…

Mears Park - 9-13 006

and this is 2 minutes into our set…

Mears Park - 9-13 007

It was a super fun night.  I didn’t get a ton of photo’s this time around as I was too busy swatting mosquito’s from the stage.  Sorry if I looked like I was flipping out up there.  I was getting eaten alive.

Mears Park - 9-13 008

The sun was starting to set and things always turn magical as the sun goes down.

I wish I had more pics, I wish I had more pics, I wish I had more pics…

There were a TON of photographers there so hopefully some will surface in the general press.  Maybe our friend Asha will post hers.  If she does, I’ll put a link up right away.

Here’s a blurry one to show the sun went down eventually.  Point and shoot fail;

And then there was Carnage!

Mears Park - 9-13 011

Afterwards, we hung around and signed autographs and took a ton of photo’s.  Thanks to everyone who came out!  It was fun and especially so because it was a St. Paul affair.

Here’s a pic that I took with my camera because someone’s camera phone may not have done the job.  Enjoy, and thanks for waiting!

So, before running over to Get Cryphy upstairs, I hung out in the main room and watched a bunch of Maria Isa’s CD Release party.  I walked in late and saw the last half of Dance Band’s set.  I was bummed that I missed my homegirl Mayda.  (frowns).  All and all, a damned good time though – My pics – Enjoy.

It was a good show but I had to dip out about halfway through her set to get my hosting duties upstairs going.  Get Cryphy was the official after party.
